Well, accidents do happen... though I really, really hope that particular kind of accident won't, even if it is super-unlikely considering that I'm Muslim and don't believe in premarital sex...

However!

If that ever happens though, I would never hang up and then just pretend like nothing happened. That's just...evil.

I didn't know you were Muslim...

It was the sense of humor. That's what threw me.

Okay, sorry, that was racist, but given the Muslims who are actually making the news around here, when you say you're Muslim and make a funny joke like this, you just know some smartass like me is gonna come along and say that. So I figured it'd be better if it was someone who didn't actually believe it, and saying it solely because it was funny, who said it. Or said it first anyway. No promises someone who actually believes it won't come along and say it.

Hahahahhaa! I get that sometimes, actually.

It's kind of sad that the 'Muslims' who get into the news a lot are the close-minded and extremist ones... and the fact that they only make up, at most, three percent of the whole 1.5 billion of us :(

Why do bad boys get all the screen time? Oh right, the ratings.

And, just so you'd know, no offense taken :) However, it's not exactly 'racist' since it really doesn't have anything to do with race o.o

Btw, on another note, you ever read Applegeeks or Applegeeks Lite by Mohammad "Hawk" F. Haque and Ananth Panagariya? It's a goodie 8D

Good point. Um...religionist maybe?

I've ventured over there on occasion, but I haven't bookmarked it yet.

Actually, to tell the truth, they (the Osama bin Laden, "Those damn Danish" lot) sort of remind me of Christian fundamentalists. And the thing about Christian fundamentalists is that when I'm reading/listening to what they have to say, all I can think of is that every time I've heard/read someone pointing out to us Christians that Jesus preached tolerance (which he did-roughly ninety-five percent of the teachings of Jesus Christ can be boiled down to "play nice, you numbskulls", and the rest was commentary on things like prostitution and other objectionable careers), it's an atheist or a pagan saying it. Which sort of worries me, because it tells me that the people who sit there saying that the Bible is meant to be taken literally and isn't open to interpretation have only been reading Leviticus (which is a book in the Bible that mostly consists of things you shouldn't do-lie down with a man if you're a man, which tends to get used a lot at anti-gay protest rallies, eat seafood what isn't fish, stuff like that. I don't know if the Koran has an equivalent to it, but if it does, I imagine it gets misused just as much), not to mention that nonbelievers know our holy book better'n we do, which is bad.

Hey, is it true you guys believe that us'n'you'n'the Jews worship the same God, but we got it wrong?

And that kill-an-infidel-to-get-into-heaven-thing I heard about, what about that?

Well, we believe every religion, came from the same God, and that the ones who 'founded' them were Prophets, from Adam (peace be upon him) to Jesus (peace be upon him) and that over time some of the teachings have been twisted and/or forgotten by humans. Same thing's happening with Islam right now, some nutcase people trying to add in stuff that's not supposed to be there.

Kill an infidel to get into heaven? Hahahahaha! Actually, anyone who really understands Islam would remember the last portion of the verse "Unbelievers": "You have your Way, We have Ours." In other words, we are commanded to respect and tolerate those who don't believe. In times of war, we're not allowed to attack anyone who takes refuge house of worship, be it a church, a temple, or synagogue. (The only time that can be over-ruled is if the people inside the building attacked from within, which then means they no longer hold their place sacred as they use it for the purpose bloodshed.)

Another verse makes it clearer: "Retaliate, but it is better to forgive" and another one says: "Repel the bad with that which is better". This totally turns any follower of Osama into the very thing that they claim to hate: People who attack without caring for civilian lives. This is also why I fundamentally don't believe in using violence to solve problems, unless force really is the only language the enemy understands.

If you were referring to Jihad, then yes, we do believe that people who sacrifice their lives for a greater good would be sent to Paradise, but not if the intention is suicide or if it is to cause more chaos and bloodshed. Even a Muslim who dies protecting the life of a non-Muslim who has committed no murder or any other major crime is considered a martyr. Killing anyone who has no direct intention to kill is always wrong... and even then it's better to capture and forgive.

It's unfortunate that most people, instead of forgive and forget, they just forget to forgive.

Hm. I remember reading about some guy who was talking to a Muslim friend of his, and said friend said something about having to kill an infidel to be allowed into Heaven. Then the guy says, "What, so if you killed me you could get into Heaven?" And the Muslim just stops. I can't remember where I read that though...years ago, though, I know that much.

Amazing how similar Muslim terrorists and Christian fundamentalists sound when you put 'em next to each other.

Actually, come to that, amazing how similar Christians and Muslims sound when you put 'em next to each other.

Ahahahahaa! Actually, Muslims like myself are taught to never tell someone "you're going to hell for sure" or "you're going to heaven for sure", because no one but God would know what exactly they have done, or what they might do before they die and no one but God has the right to know who's going to either place. In the end, it's all up to God to judge.

That Muslim you read about is probably someone who comes from an extremist sect, or misinterpreted the portion of the Quran that commanded to "kill the infidels", which was actually a verse sent down when Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was under attack by an unreasonable enemy who refused to let him or his friends and followers live. Yes, it was a command to 'kill infidels', but only for self-defense, and that's it.

Even then, it's better to take away their ability or will to kill rather than ending their lives outright. Therefore, that command is only applicable in times of war, that a Muslim can only kill an infidel if it is for the sake of self-defense against an enemy that refuses to listen to reason.

And yes, Muslims and Christians are similar. All the more reasons we shouldn't fight or argue.

Oh and here's a little fact: 'Islam' is actually a verb, not a noun, which is why a believer of that religion isn't called an 'Islamic' or 'Islamist'. People say it means 'peace', but it actually has three meanings: 'Surrender to God', 'Submission to God' and then there's 'Peace'. 'Muslim' means 'Someone who has surrendered to God', hence making it the proper term.

Or he coulda been not a Muslim and I just thought he was a Muslim. Or he misinterpreted the Koran's teaching. Or it was fiction and I didn't know it was fiction. There's any number of reasons why he was a Muslim acting out of character.

And I know why creationists (any creationists) and Darwinists should stop arguing and get along. 'Cause we're both right. Go on. Ask me how.

I always wondered why it was "Muslim."

Er, I don't have a problem with evolution, as long as it doesn't claim that living matter can come out of non-living matter. It's impossible to form proteins out of anything that isn't alive, and attempts to synthesize living protein out of 'dead' substances only resulted in un-living chains.

My beef with Darwinism has nothing to do with my religious beliefs, but rather because some of it makes no scientific sense to me. One of them is the human-primate relation theory.

The Darwinist idea that humans evolved from primates, that we 'learned' to stand upright offends me, not because of religious reasons either, but because standing upright doesn't give us any real advantage whatsoever. It's because we walk on two legs that human beings are one of the most vulnerable and slowest runners, and lack the mobility of quadrupeds. While we can see higher and further, our heads stick out and we tend to miss what's under our feet. The sacrifice of quadrupedal movement is not required for intelligence, nor for opposable thumbs. Humans don't really have the same instincts with apes either, despite the idea of 'primal instincts'.

And the real genetic difference between humans and apes is actually 2%.

Anyway, as I said, I don't really have a problem with the idea that certain organisms can change over time, as one of Allah/God's many names is, funnily enough, 'The Evolver'. I find it hilarious though, that ants, mosquitoes, cockroaches and many other insects never really evolved after a course of millions of years.

'Evolution' doesn't mean improvement, it just means change to fit in better, which is just like adaptation, but with a slightly different sense... and I laugh every time someone thinks we're all going to evolve into 'energy-based lifeforms' or psychics or something stupid like that. I believe that humans will never fundamentally change, mainly because we've adapted to so many kinds of environments without ever needing any drastic genetic mutation. True, different races of humans develop in different regions, but that's not really evolution as they are simply adapting their genes to allow them to survive better.

Nah.

It's something I'd rather do with someone I love, care about, and trust enough to swear my loyalty to, though the fact remains that I am pretty much an ordinary man, and there's no guarantee I'd be able to keep myself from losing to my 100% natural urges... which is why I prepared myself for such a scenario.
